Our Vision is a Better Future Driven by Science and Philosophy EducationAt NLE, we imagine a future in which all people are empowered by scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. By enhancing global scientific literacy, we hope to further our connection with, and understanding of, the natural world and our place within it. It is our hope that by increasing our understanding of the world around us, we might be able to live more consciously and intentionally to build a future that better represents our hopes, desires, and dreams. Everything we do at NLE is guided by this vision.

Our Values Are Simple
Scientific Literacy
According to the National Academy of the Sciences, "Scientific literacy is the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for personal decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity."
An empowered citizenry must understand basic scientific concepts about the natural world and have the ability to find answers to questions that arise during one's experience of the world. We want to improve scientific literacy so that all people may be more empowered to make better decisions, develop better ideas, and achieve better lives.
Critical Thinking
We support honest science and strive to teach others how to think critically about scientific topics and identify cognitive biases that may compromise learning and the enhancement of scientific literacy.
Systems Thinking
It is often the case in life that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." We don't just want people to learn trivial facts about the natural world. We want people to see how different concepts connect together to form a complex and delicate series of interconnected systems and ideas. We hope to bring greater awareness to the interconnected webs of life around us and how we influence those systems.
Mindfulness
By enhancing scientific literacy, promoting scientific integrity and critical thinking, and connecting ideas through systems thinking, it is our conviction that people can live their lives with greater awareness of their perceptions, desires, intentions, and actions - ultimately leading to the cultivation of greater mindfulness and conscious living. We believe people can only make decisions that support their best interest if they have an adequate understanding of the systems of which they are apart. Through science education, we hope to do our part to support a more mindful society as a whole.
